when the fish also floated
with burst intestines

SPRING

Hibakuju ya kaki wa arata ni tsukuroware
A-bombed tree
enclosed with a fence
newly mended
Genbaku no domu ni komoru kasumi kana
In A-bomb Dome
mist staying
motionless
Hibakuju ya nisei no ko-no-me ide somuru
A-bombed tree --
second generation trees
are starting to bud
Koi-no-neko ya genbaku domu kake nukeshi
Cats in love
ran through A-bomb Dome
screaming

SUMMER

Bakushinchi heiwa no ike no mizusumashi
A-bomb blast centre
water-striders are swimming
on the Pond of Peace
Enten ya genbaku shikiten akago naku
The sun is blazing --
a baby crying bitter
in the A-bom rite
Hotaru tobu genbaku domu no yume o miru
Mysterious dream --
fireflies are flying about
in the A-bomb Dome
Genbaku no shikiten kokage nadowa naku
A-bomb ceremony
there is no trees' shade
anywhere

AUTUMN

Genbaku no domu no naka mo ryoya kana
O the full-moon light --
flooding the interior
of the A-bomb Dome
Hibakuju no ko-no-mi o hirou kodomo kana
A-bombed tree --
children picking up
the fallen nuts

Chichi haha no ryuto kata yose hanare zaru

Father and mother
their lit paper lanterns floating
side by side
Gennbaku no domu taizen taifu-ka
A-bomb Dome
standing calmy as it was
ather the typhoon

Shimogakoi saruru kinenju bakushinchi
Memorial trees
all protected from the frost

Orizuru ni hatsuhi sashikuru genbaku-hi
New Year's first sunshine
