Pacifism : vigil.

An event of great moment for our little country this week. The Right Honourable David Lange, our premier who, in the '80's was responsible for N.Z's non-nuclear stance, died after a lengthy illness. It is a contemplative time for us as we look back and also head into an election. The current Opposition party would wish to re-think our non nuclear stance. Most N.Zers are happy to continue to embrace the path David Lange so bravely took and which has been so whole-heatedly supported by us as a nation.

Mr Lange and his family chose not to have a state funeral and he had a small family service early in the week. However, on Saturday morning (yesterday), thousands gathered at a stadium near where Mr Lange lived. An informal celebration of his life was held. How I would have loved to have gone to it but out of the question.
