  Marlene Mountain

a lot to take in all the sounds that hover between dusk and dawn

sirens & red lights thru the bedroom window cicadas pause & resume /sb

dogwoods with a changed tone of voice

hidden in the bark the old scars of her initials /sb

in transition pampas grass where praying mantises once hung

the color of straw now her thoughts weave themselves into my painting /sb

huddled in dust cukes wait on rain from 'hanna'

once again the indigo in the clouds break their promise /sb

garden tools in the truck bed in case they've energy to be used

the migrants drink their beer & watch her slowly cross the cotton field /sb
