now only sun

autumn sun
slow motion replay
of the plane as it hits

Linda Robeck (USA)

cold tuesday
only black smoke
where twin towers were
pluie de cendres
noirs, jaunes, blancs se sauvent -
la même peau
rain of ashes
black, yellow, white escaping -
the same skin

Bill Bilquin (Belgium)

on such a day
walking past the schoolyard
to hear the children laugh

Cindy Zackowitz (USA)

veiled sun
around the world . . .
stone dust settles

David Walker, USA

tower of flames -
a husband and wife hold hands
as they plunge
departing year --
even in sleep,
the slow tumbling of towers

my hands erect firm
in prayer

kuni (Japan)

liberty bell & independence hall the closing down of 9/11/01

getting home from work
drastic changes in
the skyline I just left
ten hours later
getting answering machine
asking for callback
going to work
the eagle wasn't flying
no parking lot lights
half empty brewery
plant manager recalls
horror from his window
11pm
smoke billows against
the night sky
at midnight
the sweetest words
"we're all here and fine"
in cafeteria
black, red, yellow and white
mourn in each others' arms
at first light
NY skyline attempting to
peek through the smoke
on the way home
passing high school
quiet teenaged boys
at the brewery
everybody
stopping at the windows
midnight shift
everyone more tired
than usual
cafeteria
not a word of trash
spoken all week

Witherspoon Hazel (USA)

autumn chill
a flag at half mast
strains against the pole

Alison Williams (UK)

starless night . . .
we have only to pray
for healing rain

an'ya (USA)

noon at work -
during the job interview
three minutes silence

Alenka Zorman (Slovenia)

pluie fine --
dans mon esprit ce midi
des hommes et des décombres
light rain --
this noon in my mind
men and rubble
men and rubble
dust in the wind
and silence
interminable
la chute du corps
le long de la paroi de verre
endless
the fall of the body
all along the face of glass

Serge Tomé, Belgium

half-mast --
september sunshine streams
through green maple leaves
